"The really stylish French hostess will mix store-bought with handmade for dessert and do it judiciously and with flair." — Dorie Greenspan from her article " When French Women Bake..." which won a James Beard Foundation Journalism Award
Recipe
I halved the recipe and baked the minis for 30-35 minutes.
¾ stick (6 tablespoons) unsalted butter, at room temperature
2/3 cup sugar
¾ cup ground blanched almonds
2 teaspoons flour
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 large egg
2 teaspoons dark rum or 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Tart shells
Can of pears

Tasting Notes
This tart is easy and delicious. I know it would be even better with the homemade nut crust and freshly-poached pears.

Those little tarts are so cute! It is so great to have options for easy desserts, right? :)
I made mini tarts as well, but mine are not nearly as fancy!
You did a superb job!
I think I would need to hibernate for a month if I made that yule log! I think your tarts are adorable -- so pretty, as your creations always are!
They look so delicate and tasty!

Just gorgeous! I think I may have to buy mini tart pans.
Your tarts are too cute!
I liked that we could use canned pears, I find the fresh ones pretty hit or miss in the grocers.
I agree - this was a fabulous dessert, and soooo much easier than the yule log!
I LOVE the crimped edge! It looks sooo cute and adorable. Nice job Shari! :)
You can't argue with the stylish French way of doing things, right? These tarts are simply adorable. The almond cream is the best part; and that's homemade. Great job.
